HOBOKEN, N.J. - A spectacular new restaurant boasting  soaring ceilings, vibrant features, and spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline will debut in December within The Shipyard, the mixed-use community of luxury residences and upscale retail space located on Hoboken's northern waterfront.

Designed by Manhattan-based NBBJ, the fourth largest architectural firm in the world, Lua will further the unique cultural lifestyle offered at The Shipyard, while its sensational 7,000 square-foot space is a bold stroke for New Jersey in general, according to owner John Avoletta, Jr.

"Lua is sure to capture the public's imagination with its electric and sophisticated ambiance that will rival any Ôø‡"hot spot" in the area, including Manhattan," notes Mr. Avoletta, who also owns Hoboken's widely popular City Bistro.

"With a sensational waterfront location just steps from a New York Waterway Ferry Terminal and convenient Valet Service, we expect to attract patrons from throughout New Jersey and Manhattan."

Lua's dramatic interior space offers an open, fluid environment that excites guests by promoting a hip and social environment for both dinner and cocktails.  The restaurant's centerpiece is a one-of-a-kind elliptical bar with a glowing amber resin top that flows out from a curved wood base.  It is oriented to provide a 360-degree view of the restaurant.

The two-level dining room, which will seat about 150 people, is separated from the bar area by a freestanding custom partition which provides privacy for diners.   A series of banquets along the perimeter allows intimate dining experiences, while oversized windows provide a spectacular view of the Manhattan skyline.

"We've also designed an eye-catching lounge area which can be used for private parties or casual cocktails," Mr. Avoletta points out.  "Lounge seating provides a more relaxed and easy atmosphere, while small, star-like pendant fixtures hang throughout the space -- a winking nod that ties the glowing resin bar together with the lounge area."

As for the menu, Avoletta and his partners tapped Chef Ricardo Cardona, whose career highlights include Republi'k in Manhattan's Washington Heights, the Ritz Carlton on Central Park, Josephina across from Lincoln Center, Bistro Latino in Midtown, and Sabor, a popular tapas bar on the upper west side.

For Lua, Cardona has put together a fun menu of Pan American cuisine that includes Tapas, a New American Raw Bar, Ceviches and Tartars, and a series of grilled specialties.  An extensive wine list will be offered, as will a long list of specialty drinks, including Sangrias, Coladas, Margaritas, Mojitos, and a host of tequila-laden delights.

Lua is expected to open to the public in December.
